Many "mechanics" today merely remove and replace parts.
This is sometimes the only recourse when electronics go to ****.

I've had cars where "the fix" was to unhook the battery. Wait a while. Reconnect.
That was the easy way to reset the computer. Sometimes the garage just flashes the drive.
I guess that's just a reset in safe mode. It is different than reconnecting the battery somehow.

**** computers are great when they work. Pain in the *** when **** up.
